Aliens on the Jumbotron
According to recent blog posts, if the Galileo Project finds a potentially artificial artifact, an update will be displayed on a Mega Screen in Times Square. What might be the consequences of that?
In case you haven’t been following recent developments closely, The Galileo Project, lead by Professor Loeb, has begun their their recent expedition to the South Pacific to investigate the crash site of Interstellar Meteor 1 (IM1.) Professor Loeb has repeatedly explained why he believes it’s possible this meteor may have been technological — whatever it’s made of is stronger than every other meteor’s composition in the CNEOS catalog by a wide margin and hit the atmosphere moving at a speed faster than 95% of the stars in Earth’s vicinity implying it may have received a boost.
Professor Loeb left on this expedition six days after The Debrief ran their article on UAP and “Non-Human Intelligence” (NHI) U.S. Intelligence Community whistleblower David Grusch. There’s more of that synchronicity again.
Per Professor Loeb in his blog article:
Throughout this entire effort Professor Loeb has emphasized how important transparency is to science generally as well as to this project specifically — so I’m certain that is the motivating factor behind this development. But I think this could be dangerous.
More from Professor Loeb in a subsequent blog article:
He states that if they find something and the portable X-ray equipment they brought on board the boat indicates possible artificial composition, they plan to share the news on the Mega Screen right away. I’m sure they will couch this announcement indicating it’s only potentially artificial interstellar space trash but what might the practical effect of the announcement be?
I assume the corporate news media and social media alike would go ballistic — we’d see headlines like, “We Are Not Alone!”, “Proof of Aliens Discovered!” etc. I’m sure they will be more creative than me. There will be Tweet threads with thousands if not millions of likes. I’d fully expect a Tweet from Elon Musk himself along the lines of:
Now what would happen should further analysis back home in the lab at Harvard reveal that perhaps the object is either not from another solar system or is not actually artificial (or both)? I would guess public sentiment turns decidedly the other way.
Combine this possibility with another possible scenario where AARO or the Intelligence Community Inspector General decide there is nothing of substance to the reports brought forward by the recent whistleblower. Maybe even a few of the underlying reports are declassified and publicly debunked.
I imagine the net effect would be that the public, media and government enthusiasm for this subject hits all time lows. I would also expect many smug “I told you so” tweet threads from the extremely-online scientific community etc. Concern about this scenario is the primary theme of my earlier series of posts on this subject.
I’m hoping for the best for the project team and that I’m wrong about this but my Spidey-senses are certainly tingling.
